April 2024 - Two of our TMI coaches, Katy Harris and Alex Gelling, are gearing up to work with Michael Cunningham of Del Valle High School to start global classroom opportunities for students in the UK and the US to learn mediation skills together.
The TMI internship model, devised by Michael Cunningham, introduces a high-caliber legal education to high school students through a comprehensive program. It transcends geographical boundaries, offering practical legal experiences that prepare students for future careers. The model comprises eight steps: international experiences with partners worldwide, empathy training, legal profession immersion, arbitration training, ambassador job shadowing, exposure to international courts, environmental mock arbitrations, and NGO partnerships. Through this model, students gain certificates, real-world experiences, and a global perspective, positioning them as competent legal professionals for the 22nd century, ensuring they are ready to lead in the future.
TMI believes mediation is an innovative tool for building a positive school culture as well as preparing students for future careers.

TMI's Academy Programs - Building Bridges Worldwide
Imagine a classroom that extends beyond its four walls, where students learn vital conflict resolution skills that empower them not just academically, but also in their personal and future professional lives. TMI's Academy programs are turning this vision into reality, inviting high school students to delve into the art of mediation.
Through these programs, students will gain hands-on experience, actively engaging in mock mediations to polish their peacemaking and negotiation skills. They'll also benefit from collaborative opportunities, working alongside international peers to cultivate cross-cultural understanding and broaden their global perspective.
We believe that every student carries the potential to become a mediator in their community. Therefore, we embrace a policy of inclusivity, making sure no interested student is left behind. TMI strives to provide recognition for excellence by offering certification opportunities that will add significant value to student portfolios.
As we look towards a future where diplomacy and dialogue take precedence in conflict resolution, TMI's Academy program stands as a beacon of hope. We seek to inspire students to become effective communicators and problem solvers, skills that are quintessential for the leaders of tomorrow.
At TMI, we believe in ditching the outdated “one-size-fits-all” model and leaning into a tailored, compassionate approach. Here’s how we do it:
- **Restorative Practices**: We’re big fans of sitting down with students and unpacking the “whys” behind their behavior. It’s not just about fixing actions; it’s about healing people.
- **Understanding Each Story**: Recognizing that each student's journey is unique is the key to unlocking their potential. We're nurturing a culture that values individual needs and narratives.
- **Equity and Justice**: It's time to look at the patterns that emerge—who’s being disciplined and why? Addressing the systemic issues that lead to disproportionate discipline can create a fairer, more just school environment.
- **Empowering Educators**: Teacher training is crucial. With the right resources in behavior management and cultural competency, we give educators the superpower to transform lives.
- **Building Belonging**: Schools should be sanctuaries. Let’s create spaces where every student feels seen, heard, and valued, preventing issues before they arise.
We’re excited to introduce the TMI program, designed to bring these points alive in your school. Let's partner up to prioritize understanding, empathy, and inclusivity.
Join us in revamping the education landscape. Let’s not just teach; let's inspire lasting growth and resilience.
